This is an initial checklist for a work permit renewal application. We may request additional documents based on the need for your application and current requirements.
Standard Documents
Valid Passport – all biography, signature pages and pages with any visa and stamps (if applicable)

Representative Submission Letter (to be provided by YCI before submission)
Use of Representative Form IMM5476 (to be provided by YCI before submission)
Marriage licence/certificate or Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union (if applicable)
Current and/or past study permits
Current and/or past Co-op work permits
Proof of extension application submission if on maintained status (if applicable)
Eligibility Documents
Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) Renewal
PGWP renewal is only possible under below cases:
– Initial PGWP was given for a shorter length due to limited passport validity
– IRCC issued special measured allowing PGWP renewal for some applicants
– Initial PGWP was given for a shorter length due to limited passport validity
– IRCC issued special measured allowing PGWP renewal for some applicants
Recent Education Transcript/s (official or unofficial)
Completion of Studies Letter/s, if applicable
Renewed passport, if applicable
Spouse Open Work Permit (PGWP) Renewal
If the Host Spouse in Canada is – Student
Study Permit (current and expired, if any)
Coop Work Permit (current and expired, if any)
Letter of Acceptance
Tuition Fee Receipt
Confirmation of enrolment (COE) issued by the DLI and program schedule (timetable)
Grades/Transcripts for the completed portion of studies (Official or Unofficial)
If the Host Spouse in Canada is – Skilled Worker
Starting January 30, 2023, family members of most foreign workers can apply for an open work permit. A few exceptions may apply to family members of low-skilled workers: i. the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program and ii. the Agricultural Stream of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.
Work Permit or Acknowledge of Receipt (AoR) of PGWP application submission
Letter of Employment confirming job, income and job responsibilities for NOC review
Salary Slips (4 to 6, if available)
Other Open Work Permit Renewals
Acknowledgement of Receipt (AoR) of PR application submission (Express Entry)
Provincial nomination approval letter
Acknowledgement of Receipt (AoR) of PR application submission (Family Class)
Employer Specific Work Permit Renewal
A valid letter of employment supported by a positive LMIA or a valid letter of employment where the job is exempt from LMIA

Dependent Children
Definition of Dependent Child under section 2 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations:
(i) is less than 22 years of age and is not a spouse or common-law partner, or
(ii) is 22 years of age or older and has depended substantially on the financial support of the parent since before attaining the age of 22 years and is unable to be financially self-supporting due to a physical or mental condition.
