Project Description

Family Sponsorship

“to see families are reunited in Canada”

Immigration and Refugee Protection Act s3(1)(d)

Canadian immigration law allows Canadian permanent residents and citizens to sponsor their spouse, children, parents and grandparents. You can submit sponsorship applications for spouse and children in routine. Sponsoring parents and grandparents is a two step process requiring sponsor to first submit an interest to sponsor form and submit the full application once invited by IRCC.

Spousal Sponsorship

The process of spousal sponsorship slightly differs if the applicant spouse is in Canada or outside of Canada. If the spouse is in Canada, they maybe eligible for an open work permit along with the spousal sponsorship application.

    • Children from 13 to 19 years old – until they turn 22 years
    • Children over 19 years old – 3 years
    • Parents and Grandparents – 20 years
  • If the Sponsor was sponsored as a spouse, they may not sponsor a new spouse or partner for 5 years

  • One cannot sponsor in-laws; however, they can co-sign the sponsorship

  • If the sponsored person gets any social assistance, the Sponsor must repay the province

  • The Sponsor must not be an undischarged bankrupt

  • If the Sponsor have failed the financial obligation where they sponsored or co-signed in past, they are not eligible to sponsor
